Hi – my name is Emily and I play the cello which I have been learning for 4 ½ years. My musical journey started before that with learning piano for two years but when I was offered the chance to try cello, I loved it and it soon took over as my main passion. My teacher for piano and cello during this time has been Dora Green. Dora also mentors the Corazon Trio and we competed for the first time this year in the NZ Chamber Competition which was a highlight for the group.
I really enjoy the opportunity to play for an audience and have played in the Town Hall on several occasions, as well as at private functions, competitions, school and community events and I am preparing to sit my Grade 8 exam at the end of this year.
I am a student at Baradene College where I play in the Chamber Orchestra, the Senior Orchestra as Section Leader, and the Bach Octet which won a Silver Award at the KBB Music Festival this year. I was also selected to play in the KBB Honours Orchestra this year.
I am a scholarship student at the Pettman National Junior Academy of Music which is run in association with the University of Auckland School of Music, studying under Edith Salzmann. This has provided some amazing opportunities for me to learn and extend my playing and musical knowledge as well as some fantastic performance opportunities and the chance to participate in the University workshops and master classes which offer valuable learning experiences.
In my chill-out time, I love to play with my boxer puppy, Barney and go long-boarding. I also love to go to the beach and get outdoors.
